Balkan Ruby is about the hot takes

May 15-16, 2026 in Sofia, Bulgaria

AI agents are better managed than people. Fact! React IS actually better. Types are good. PHP is fine. SOLID is not solid. We are NOT solving the real problems and are just adding bloat. Yes, we're done with the safe opinions. Bring your hot takes!

Call for Papers is on!

We're getting older. Grumpier. We've survived a pandemic, a five-year hiatus, and more JavaScripts framework wars than we care to count. And somewhere along the way, we grew tired of safe opinions and "it depends". Nope! Think React ...

Balkan Ruby is open source

The last thing you need to run an event is software. You need to book a venue, select and arrange accommodations for speakers, and make sure the attendees have a good time and finance the damn thing while at it. However, the reason I run...

Venue

This year, the Balkan Ruby tech conference is hosted in a truly unique location: the National Museum "Earth and Man" in Sofia.

Housed in a beautifully restored former barracks building from the late 19th century, the museum is dedicated to the study and preservation of the Earth's vast minerals.

This venue offers a unique thematic backdrop that perfectly aligns with our conference. The Ruby programming language shares its name with the actual precious gemstone.

Throughout the event, attendees will find themselves among a collection of over 20,000 mineral specimens. Imagine exploring the intricacies of software "gems" while surrounded by actual geological treasures, including giant crystals, rare minerals, and real ruby gem stones.

The museum is conveniently located at 4 Cherni Vrah Blvd, just south of the city center and near several major transport hubs.

By Metro

The easiest and quickest way to reach the venue is by using the metro.

  • Take the M2 line to the "European Union" Metro Station.
  • After exiting the station, walk northwest on Cherni Vrah Blvd for about 150 meters. The museum will be on your left.

By Public Transport

Several bus and trolleybus lines have stops near the museum.

  • Bus lines: 72, 76, 94, 204, 604 have stops near Cherni Vrah Blvd.
  • Trolleybus line: 7 stops near the museum.
